A mixed bag
The best aspects of this hotel were no doubt the three swimming pools with a rooftop pool and sunbathing area for adults only. The vast outdoor leisure area is well equipped with all areas used wisely for beds, towels, snacks and drinks facilities. The breakfast in this hotel is without doubt second to none in our experience, exceeding five star expectations. The staff managed the huge seating operation very well and always with a smile. The size of our room, was great as was the corner position which gave us magnificent views of the sea and coastline. Slippers and robes as well as an abundance of toiletries were also a welcome touch. All of our interactions with staff were positive and friendly, especially in the lounge bar area. The staff here were attentive with good rapport for all customers.
The five star rating gave us certain expectations which we felt were missing. The small touches were thoughtful however were quite basic. Drinking water was not renewed in our room automatically. The biggest disappointment compared to our previous visits to this hotel was the change to the entertainment on offer in the lounge bar area. At this time of year the hotel had a large proportion of families which understandably changes the whole ambiance and possibly the reason for the type of entertainment available. Even in the Canaries, there can be a cool breeze in the month of December. We questioned why all of the doors were open and advised that this was hotel policy. It was uncomfortable for us. Perhaps we were there at the wrong time. We were disappointed in the overall feel of this hotel which used to exude style and luxury with quality entertainers in a bar which used to make you want to stay all night, it fell short this time unfortunately.

Great but starting to feel it's age
Lovely hotel. Great location. In winter it was pretty easy to get a lounger for the pool, but in summer, we know from experience that you have to be there at 8am to get a place. Luckily the pool attendants do remove the inconsiderate towel lounger hoggers Good location for shops, beach, market, and free shuttle to the Siam Mall. Rooms had good mirror placements and the mirror and shelf in the hallway of room were convenient for wife for make up.
Rooms are very tired. Had a musty smell to them. For a 5 star hotel these rooms felt like the 1990s. No USB or convenient power sockets, dark old oak cabinetry and generally a little shabby given its rating. Buffet was OK but samey after a few days. The evening entertainment area was oddly placed due to the construction pillars, giving a very poor view of the shows every night. Unless you were in place an hour or more before the show it was pointless. Understandable but expensive for Christmas period.
